Program: Be a CVD Patient Expert

Note: “CVD” cardiovascular disease in this program refers to all diseases and disorders of the heart and arteries.

Who It’s For: A successful CVD patient must understand many things. Not only does he or she have to monitor medications, cholesterol, blood pressure and other indicators – the CVD patient must also learn about healthy eating, exercise and other lifestyle factors. If you have this condition, what you really need is an expert to help you navigate medical care and daily living. That expert is you and this four week program will give you the skills and tools to be an expert in your CVD.

What You’ll Do: Over the next four weeks, you’ll experiment with different skills and techniques to take control of information and understand your condition better. You’ll learn how to find reliable information, understand terms and concepts, track your overall health and talk to people about your situation. Here are the skills you will work on over the next four weeks:

  1. Surfing the Medical Web
  2. Be a CVD Encyclopedia
  3. Keep a Health Log
  4. Become Articulate
Results to Expect: You will have greater control over your CVD and your health. With the additional understanding that you gain through this program, you will be able to explain things about yourself and your CVD better to your friends, family, acquaintances and doctors. You will feel confident and be better positioned to make decisions. You will also be able to process and assess new information because of your welldeveloped knowledge about CVD, as well as know how to get answers to your questions from trustworthy sources. Sound good? Let’s get started.
