Program: Plan for a Relapse and Worsening

Who It’s For: Most people have forgotten how to be sick – and how to heal. While sick, they try to do their work from home, take care of a family and maintain a house without slowing down. If you have multiple sclerosis MS, you never know when you may have a relapse that could leave you temporarily unable to perform daily tasks. You may have a worsening of symptoms over time. When you are under stress, your body doesn’t heal as well as it could. Use this program to make sure the important things get done, even if you need to take it easy for a while. Troubleshoot everything now so that you can focus on getting better if a relapse hits.

What You’ll Do: Over the next four weeks, you’ll make lists and create actions for all your tasks and obligations. Depending on your situation, your lists may be long or short. For each item, you’ll indicate who can do it, how they should proceed and what they will need. At the end of the program, you’ll have a comprehensive master plan, covering everything from work obligations to taking care of your home. You’ll also have a special care package to make your recovery process more pleasant. Here are the four skills you’ll do in this program:

Results to Expect: Many of the negative emotions around MS and relapses involve the fear of not being able to do what you need to do. Through good planning, you’ll still cover all your responsibilities and be able to focus on yourself. Knowing that you are prepared will relieve a great deal of underlying stress in the event of a relapse or worsening of symptoms, as well as help you relax now.
