Note: A “Bad Week” in this program refers to a period when you are not able to fulfill normal obligations. It can be just a couple of days, or a much longer time period.
Who It’s For: With cancer, there will be good weeks and bad weeks. You know that – so why not make a plan for the Bad Week a time of increased symptoms, a difficult treatment or procedure or unpleasant side effects from medications? One of the worst things about being sick is lying in bed feeling terrible while thinking about all the things that you have to do. Wouldn’t it be great if you had a plan you could just “turn on” and things would get done? You could just relax and focus on feeling better. Making that plan is what this program is all about.
What You’ll Do: Over the next four weeks, you’ll spend a little time each day listing everything that you do. You’ll also come up with strategies and solutions to ensure that the necessary tasks get done while you are focusing on taking care of yourself. We’ll give you a program to work on your plan a little bit each day. By the end of the four weeks, you’ll have a complete and comprehensive plan that covers everything from getting rides to the doctor to walking the dog. The skills you’ll work on are:
Results to Expect: Cancer is scary enough – you don’t needed the added fear of letting other people down and not doing the things you need to do. If you are having a Bad Week, you need to rest, not worry or feel guilty. Just creating this plan will help and remove some of the stress around having cancer and receiving cancer treatments.
